A Cool Pit Stop Before Takeoff

March 2025 – After just missing out on a Virgin upgrade bid (so close, yet so far!), I decided to make the most of my time near the Virgin gates at Adelaide Airport. With a couple of hours to spare and a need to cool off, I discovered a surprisingly chill haven in the form of ADL Grounds Bar — and it honestly saved my travel day.



First impressions? The industrial-meets-warm-sports-bar vibe was instantly welcoming. Comfy booths, jumbo screens playing every type of imaginable sport, and a calm yet lively atmosphere made it the perfect place to shake off that upgrade disappointment.

I found a great spot with solid internet, ideal for catching up on emails or mindless scrolling, and ordered a plate of crispy wings - which lived up to their "finger-licking" promise. Paired with a refreshing drink from the full-service bar, it was just the reset I needed before boarding.

Families, solo travellers, and even a few people were tapping away on laptops. It felt laid-back and easygoing, with just the right buzz and breathing space balance. And for the young (and young at heart), there’s even access to gaming consoles to keep things fun.

With operating hours from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily (subject to flight schedules), ADL Grounds Bar is a great pre-flight stop—whether you're after a full meal, a drink, or just a quiet corner to regroup.

Would I go back? Absolutely. Especially if I don’t land that elusive upgrade next time!
