Doctor Dolittle Jr.

Thursday 7th of October to Saturday 9th of October
These school holidays, join the Doctor & his animal friends

Two-headed llamas, dotty ducks, feisty foxes and a giant snail are set to fill the stage of the fabulous Goodwood Theatre these October school holidays!

Adelaide Theatre Academy's Performance Troupe, Curtain Calls and Show Stoppers are excited to perform a limited season of the beloved Doctor Dolittle Jr - 6 shows only - tickets are now on sale!

Doctor Dolittle Jr is a wonderfully wacky tale is based on Hugh Lofting's popular children's books written from 1920 to 1952.

It is Victorian England where we discover Doctor Dolittle living in the fictional town of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh.

Doctor Dolittle has abandoned his human medical practice to work with animals.

His parrot, Polynesia, teaches him 498 different animal languages and he sets off to travel the world to learn more about exotic places, such as the mysterious Sea Star Island and unusual animals like the dancing two-headed Pushmi-Pullyu, the Great Pink Sea Snail which is the oldest and wisest of all the creatures on earth.

Featuring vibrant costumes, sensational choreography and memorable songs such as Talk to the Animals', 'I've Never Seen Anything Like It' and 'My Friend the Doctor', theatregoers can expect a delightful singing, dancing and physical comedy spectacular!

Director, Aria Stevenson says "The Adelaide Theatre Academy's senior students are creating some theatrical magic in the rehearsal room. We can hardly wait to bring this wonderful story and all these lovely animals to life for our audiences. It is a truly joyful production and the whole family will feel like they're really singing and dancing with the animals."

The character of Doctor Dolittle has been brought to both stage and screen multiple times over the years. This includes the 1967 film starring Rex Harrison, a 1970s animated television series, and the 1998 stage musical with book, music, and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse which is based on the 1967 movie. There is also the 1998 film starring Eddie Murphy and the 2020 film starring Robert Downey Jr. It is a family favourite which refuses to be kept on the shelf!
