Thomas Ades' Alchymia has been hailed as one of the best chamber music compositions of the time. Inspired by the music of Shakespearean England, but with a voice all of its own, this major work for string quartet and basset clarinet was premiered in 2021 and has become an instant classic. Musica Viva Australia is excited to present the London-based Doric String Quartet performing this magical work with the brilliance of Australian clarinettist and FutureMaker, Lloyd Van't Hoff.

The Doric String Quartet. Four voices, an infinite range of expression. Maia Cabeza (violin), Ying Xue (violin), Emma Wernig (viola) and John Myerscough (cello) bring sumptuous sweetness and laser-like clarity and a delicate intimacy, with Lloyd Van't Hoff (basset clarinet), a technical and expressive master of his instrument 2019 (The Age) completes the ensemble.

Then they invite you to take an atmospheric walk through the classical music at its finest: precious moments of beauty and exhilaration. Please find concert schedules as follows:
