Adelaide Oval, that grand old dame, is getting a rather unusual makeover on July 18, 2025. For one night only, Illuminate Adelaide is apparently turning the place into a giant canvas using drones and fancy lights, making it an Australian first. Presumably, no one else has managed to corral hundreds of illuminated drones for a spectacular before. It is happening on the banks of Karrawirra Parri, so expect a bit of a show involving sky, sound and a fair few pixels.

They are calling it Horizons, and it is meant to take you on a journey through 60,000 years of history, all squeezed into a single evening. Think dawn to dusk in fast forward, telling tales from the Kaurna People's deep connection to the river, through the glory days of our sporting legends kicking goals or smashing sixes, right up to whatever the future holds for human connection. Basically, it is a massive aerial symphony of light and sound, hopefully without any drone related mishaps, just a grand story unfurling above your head.
