As an avid lover of the enchanting fragrances, rich spices, and captivating allure of Indian cuisine, I've always considered myself a connoisseur of the past. On a momentous occasion like my parents' 50th Wedding Anniversary, I decided to revisit an old favourite, The Jasmin, to mark this special day. My sister and I share a profound love for Indian food, with Jasmine being one of her all-time favourites. So, on the 25th of August, 2023, we embarked on a gastronomic adventure to celebrate with our beloved parents.



From the moment we stepped inside, The Jasmin welcomed us with open arms. The combination of exceptional service and delectable food made our experience truly divine. I must commend Lee for his exceptional service, which added a layer of warmth and charm to our dining experience. It felt like we were escaping to a culinary haven tucked away beneath the bustling streets of Hindmarsh Square, Adelaide.



The story of The Jasmin is as captivating as its cuisine. Established by the Singh-Sandhu family in January 1980, it started as a modest, unlicensed restaurant. Mrs. Singh's unwavering commitment to her family recipes, her uncompromising integrity when it came to selecting produce, and her mastery in blending spices soon garnered a legion of curry enthusiasts from far and wide.

As word of mouth spread and the clientele grew, the need for expansion and a liquor license became apparent. In 1982, an elegant dining room was unveiled, adorned with mahogany tables and chairs. The pièce de résistance was the incorporation of Tom Gleghorn's magnificent artworks, which breathed life into the space. A decade ago, a private dining room was added to enhance the dining experience further.

The fame of The Jasmin continued to rise, becoming an essential stop for visiting cricket teams. The restaurant boasts a fine collection of signed cricket bats from some of the sport's legends, including Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar. Renowned musicians and bands, such as Elton John, The Prodigy, and DJ Carl Cox, have left with satisfied palates after indulging in a sumptuous feast at The Jasmin. Even Billy Connolly, the legendary comedian, found himself returning on multiple occasions. It was not just the celebrities; prime ministers, premiers, and politicians also graced its doors.

Even after 37 years, The Jasmin's commitment to delivering top-notch food and impeccable service remains unwavering. It comes as no surprise that this multi-award-winning restaurant continues to hold its place as one of Adelaide's premier dining establishments.
