Gatsby Glam Meets Small-Batch Spirits in Kent Town

A new distillery experience is taking shape in Kent Town, led by the owner of Viking Burger (previously Kafana). Pete’s Distilling Co. is currently being transformed into an elegant cellar door and cigar lounge, blending mid-century European character with local South Australian spirit.

This micro-distillery will specialise in small-batch creations inspired by Serbian heritage, including three modern rakija flavours — coffee, salted caramel and cinnamon - alongside organic limoncello made with family-grown South Australian lemons. Vodka, gin and non-alcoholic alternatives will also join the lineup.

While the fit-out continues, the vision is already clear: think Gatsby glamour with indulgent finishes. The intimate space is being built by hand, with dark ceilings, gold accents, statement chandeliers and polished timber floors. Guests will be able to enjoy their drinks with a view — the bar opens into a sunny courtyard that will evolve into a relaxed outdoor patio.

Food will complement the spirits program. Viking Burger will operate on site, with pizzas and occasional Serbian-style celebrations planned for future events.

Located on North Terrace in Kent Town, Pete’s Distilling Co. is positioned to become a new go-to for handcrafted spirits, late-night ambience and a sip of Balkan hospitality in the east-end fringe. Renovations are progressing, and anticipation is building.
