The Stationmaster's Gallery,
20 South Terrace, Strathalbyn, situated next to the Information Centre in Strathalbyn, is a community gallery showcasing quality artwork, jewellery, silks, woodwork, fabric art, sculptures, cards and much more.
The Station Masters Art Gallery occupies the old lovely restored historic
Strathalbyn Railway Station, a State-heritage-listed building that once served the
Adelaide-to-Milang and Adelaide-to-Victor Harbor lines. The Stationmaster's Gallery is operated by a group of dedicated volunteers from
Strathalbyn Arts Society who ensure a high standard of art and fine craft is displayed. The old railway station is worth a visit in its own right. Built in 1884, it is one of the best-preserved regional railway stations in South Australia. The platform, ticket windows and signal arm are all still in place, and heritage interpretive panels tell the story of the railway era on the Fleurieu.
The gallery holds up to six exhibitions a year featuring the artwork of its members and invited artists, with a continually rotating program of works by local and regional artists. The gallery always welcomes new members.
Sitting next to the gallery is the
Stationmaster’s Red Hen, a renovated train carriage which is available to hire as a teaching space for any of the arts, such as painting or drawing workshops, writers groups, musicians, floral art, fabric artists or an artist in residence. Please contact the gallery for more information.
Open 7 days a week from 10 am to 4 pm (except Christmas Day and Good Friday), visit their Facebook
