Here is how the calendar is now, running all year long. You're right to question it. For a long time, *Festival State* felt like shorthand for
Mad March alone. However in 2026, Adelaide earns the title properly with a
calendar that stretches from January through to spring, spanning sport, arts, literature, film and culture.
Here it is
in true calendar order, with what each event is about, where it happens, what to expect, and how accessible it is.

Why the title
Festival State finally makes sense: The South Australian Tourism Commission has ensured that Adelaide's festivals aren't siloed into one month anymore. What began as Mad March has expanded into a carefully layered year-round calendar, supported by walkable venues, accessible pricing, and deep community participation.
In 2026, Adelaide isn't just hosting festivals, it's living them.
